Furthermore vitamin C stimulates the immune system and may avoid the generation of carcinogen substances in the intestine.

In allergies histamine is released, which is responsible for inflammation-symptoms like mucosa sweelings, watery eyes and itching. Vitamin C is now able to reduce the release of histamine and additionally supports the quicker decomposition of histamine. 2 -5 g vitamin C are recommended at addiction to allergy! Also asthma-patients benefit from vitamin C intakes of 1 - 2 g daily!

Pregnant, breast feeding, sportsmen/women, smokers, and persons under stress obviously have additional requirements of vitamin C! Cigarette- and tobacco smoke extensively destroy vitamin C. Smokers almost always have a decreased value of vitamin C, vitamin E and beta carotene. Also the birth control pill, the drug Terazykling, which we take against acne or infections, and also Aspirin and corticosteroids, which are used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, cause an increased vitamin C requirement.

About the optimal requirement strong disputes are existing. The absorption of vitamin C into the body is availed by bioflavonoids, vegetable contents of fruits and vegetables.
An overdose of vitamin C is practically impossible. As the only side effect diarrhea is known. This eventually may be avoided with an intake of vitamin C together with a meal. Also the apprehension, too much vitamin C causes kidney stones, is not correct.
